Head of OA-IA

In May 2017, Thomas Fritschi was elected by the Federal Council to head the Independent Oversight Authority for Intelligence Activities.

Thomas Fritschi studied law at the University of Berne and graduated in 1997 with an advocacy degree. From 1998 to 2001 he worked as a research assistant in the legal service of the General Staff of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS). After an assignment with Swisscoy in Kosovo, where he was in charge of the intelligence cell of the Swiss Contingent, he worked from 2002 to 2010 in various functions for the Federal Criminal Police in the Federal Office of Police fedpol, most recently as Head of the State Security Investigation Department and Deputy Head of the Investigation Division. Since September 2010, he has been head of the Office of Corrections of the Canton of Solothurn and since April 2016, he has also been president of the Conference of Cantonal Heads of Corrections.


Thomas Fritschi took up the position as head of OA-IA on 1 August 2017. His deputy is Dominic Volken.
